Background of Seminar

It is fact that every corporate entity must establish good corporate governance. For the interest of the investors in the capital market of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for the first time in 2006 and thereafter in 2012 issued Corporate Governance Guidelines which was superseded in 2018 by existing Corporate Governance Code containing conditions imposed on ‘comply’ basis upon all entities listed with stock exchanges in Bangladesh. Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) issued “Insurer’s Corporate Governance Guideline” which was made effective from 19 October 2023. Moreover, being the regulatory authority of the money market, Bangladesh Bank from time to time issued notification aiming to establish good corporate governance in the Banking Companies and Finance Companies.

Awareness of importance and benefits of establishing good corporate governance is essential side by side issuance of laws and making their compliance mandatory in order to establish, or enhance the practice of, good corporate governance in corporate entities. In addition to that knowledge about religious guidance with respect to establishing good corporate governance may become supplementary to willful compliance with the mandatory provisions. As such, having discussion on Guidance of Islam regarding good corporate governance is a demand of the time. Considering the demand of time, ABC-CHRD is holding a Seminar on “Corporate Governance – Islamic Perspective”.
